Therapy
The fee for an individual session is €55 for online and €60 in person. Each session lasts 50 minutes.
Your first session is simply an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you to talk about what has brought you to therapy.
You can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. There is no pressure to discuss anything before you feel ready, and there are no expectations for you to have all the answers.
Together, we can begin to explore what is happening in your life, what you may be struggling with, and what you hope to gain from therapy. We will work at a pace that feels comfortable for you, allowing the therapeutic relationship and your journey to develop naturally.
Yes. What you share during therapy is treated with respect and confidentiality, in line with the ethical guidelines of the Irish Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (IACP).
There are, however, a small number of circumstances where confidentiality may need to be broken. These include situations where there is a serious concern about your safety, the safety of someone else, or where there is a legal obligation to share information.
If such a situation were to arise, I would always aim to discuss this with you wherever possible.
At the beginning of therapy, I may also ask you to provide the contact details of a next of kin or trusted person. This information would only be used if there were a serious concern for your wellbeing and it was necessary to make contact.
Confidentiality and trust are an important part of the therapeutic relationship, and any limits to confidentiality will be clearly explained and discussed with you at the beginning of our work together.
Counselling provides a confidential, non-judgemental space where you can speak one-to-one with a qualified therapist about any issues or difficulties you may be experiencing. As a counsellor & psychotherapist, I am professionally trained in listening and reflective skills that support you to explore and make sense of what is impacting your life.
While people often use the terms interchangeably, psychotherapy and counselling have distinct differences.
Counselling focuses on short-term help for specific, current life problems. Psychotherapy is a longer-term process that explores deep-seated, chronic, or root emotional issues.
There is no single answer to this, as the number of sessions will depend on you, your individual circumstances and what you hope to gain from therapy.
During our initial sessions, we can explore what has brought you to therapy and begin to develop a shared understanding of how we might work together. There is no pressure to commit to a set number of sessions.
After approximately six sessions, we can take some time to review how you feel therapy is progressing and discuss whether anything needs to change to better support your needs.
Ultimately, the decision about how long you remain in therapy is yours. When you feel you have gained what you needed from the process, we can plan an appropriate ending together.
And should you ever feel that you would benefit from returning to therapy in the future, you are always welcome to do so.
Therapy is your journey — I am simply here to walk alongside you for as long as you feel you need the support.
Sessions are typically held weekly at the beginning of therapy, although fortnightly sessions may also be suitable. This can be discussed and agreed during our initial meeting.
Sessions are available online countrywide or in person at my home in Portlaoise.
